By late 19th century,
historians and linguists were referring to ancient Akkadian spoken in what is
now northern Iraq as a Turanian language… nowadays, the concept of Turanian has
been omitted form Mainstream information and Akkadian is listed as a Semitic
language… although this posting is not about the classification of ancient
Akkadian language, let’s look at the concept of Turanian…
According to J. M. Evans in a 2012 book
on ancient Sumerians, “the term Turanian is derived from the Iranian epic
traditions, in which the peoples of Turan are the enemies of Iran” living
beyond Iran… so that by 20th century, any language that awaited
classification was listed under Turanian…
…of course, those of Iranian heritage
KNOW that Turanians are Iranians and are very familiar with the legends of Iran
versus Turan…these “Iranian versus Turanian” legends and epics are still very
much part of Iranian cultural fabric…it’s not until late Antiquity-early
Medieval era when Turanian-Iranians mixed with Eurasian Turks (a Mongolian
people) causing some Turanian-Iranians to become Turkish speakers that the
classification of Turanians also extended to now mixed peoples of
Turanian/Iranian-Turkish heritage… so originally and in ancient times, Turanian
did not mean Turkish tribes—rather Eastern Iranians (as opposed to the famous
Persians, who are Western Iranians)…
O. M. Davidson discussed this in a 1985
publication in honor of Iranologist Prof. Mary Boyce by stating that Turanians
in Iranian ancient records “are thoroughly Iranian, but they are distinct in
both form and content from the institutions represented as orthodox
Iranian”…that is, compared to Iranians (Western Iranic), the Turanians (Eastern
Iranic) are seen as barbarous, predatory, nomadic, and cultic…in Iranian
memories, their natural enemies—the Turks and the Chinese—were at times allies
with Turanians…
…we can see this conflict between
Western Iranians (“orthodox” Iranians) and Eastern Iranians
(“heterodox/liberal” Iranians) in the displacement of Parthians (Eastern
Iranic) by Sasanians (Western Iranic) in that the Sasanian Persians viewed
Parthians (descendants of Scytho-Medes) as not Iranian enough to rule an
Iranian empire!!! Let’s not forget that
earlier in Iranian history, we have Cyrus the Great (king of Western Iranic
Persians) having reportedly been killed in battle by Tomyris (queen of Eastern
Iranic Scytho-Massagetaens)…
Now ancient Assyrians called the
neighboring Scythians (Eastern Iranic), “Ashkuza” (Ashkenaz)… Eastern Iranian
Scythians called Western Iranian Persians, “Khazar”… therefore, the names
Ashkenazi/Khazari referred to various Iranian groups living around the Caspian
Sea / Baltic Sea… by the Middle Ages, the Ashkenazi/Khazari will mix with Salvic
Indo-Europeans, Turkic Mongolians, and Jewish Semites to form the Khazaria
Kingdom/Empire in the Middle Ages whose ruling class chose to convert to Judaism probably for political reasons in surviving against two militaristic movements of Islam & Christianity…
…it should be noted that in the typical
Mainstream Narrative habit of omitting important information, when it also comes
to Ashkenazi/Kharazi history, the word “Iranian” is usually left out so readers
only see the words “Turkish” and “Jewish”…

were also an Iranian people…for educational purposes only]
