In an 1830 edition of The American Almanac, one notes “…the Almanacs most similar to some of those extensively circulated amongst our intelligent fellow-countrymen, are produced in Persia…”
According to Typographical Journal published in 1904, “it is thought that the word almanac was first used by Roger Bacon, who adapted from the Persian star tables of the eleventh century a calendar for the use of the English and termed it an almanack.”
